Tracey’s shot is of the dormant volcano Haleakala, which is a popular place to watch sunrise. Standing at simply over 10,000 toes above sea stage, Haleakala is Maui’s tallest peak and the third highest peak within the state of Hawaii.

With Haleakala’s nice peak and width, there are a number of completely different microclimates which creates a fantastic number of landscapes — various from practically barren on the summit to tropical rainforest on the northeast aspect. It’s very fascinating to search out these completely different environments in a comparatively compact space.
