P&O Cruises welcomes Arvia construction launch | News

A development milestone in the way forward for British cruising has been marked as P&O Cruises cuts the primary piece of metal for brand new ship Arvia.

The 184,700-tonne sister ship to Iona is being constructed on the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The corporate’s second LNG-powered Excel class ship will be part of the P&O Cruises fleet in December 2022.

In a speech on the digital ceremony P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, stated: “The metal reducing marks a rare milestone for the way forward for P&O Cruises.

“It’s a future which can embrace two of essentially the most environmentally progressive ships on the earth right now.

“Iona is poised to hitch our fleet this summer time as we return to service and is eagerly anticipated by our staff, crew and positively by our company who can’t wait to sail on her throughout her maiden season from Southampton.”

He added: “While Arvia could have a unique feel and look to Iona, being constructed to sail within the solar, the inherent DNA is similar.

“It’s one which exemplifies design excellence, forward-thinking energy technology and future-focused experiences.

“The {hardware}, expertise and inside association of areas leaves nothing missing.

“Each sheet of steel, each management panel, each cabin, gentle becoming and chair has been designed and debated to make sure that it gives a pinnacle vacation for our company and the foremost working and dwelling expertise for our crew.”
