You may see hau timber whenever you go to Hawaii. They’re often present in coastal areas and have a tendency to develop in thickets. We’ve most frequently seen them close to streams in Hawaii.
The hau tree is a kind of hibiscus as you will have observed from the bloom in Karen’s photograph. At first look, whenever you see a hau tree, you won’t suppose it’s a sort of a hibiscus because it’s a lot “beefier” than the standard hibiscus shrubs we sometimes see.
